2018 Boxing

“The fight is won or lost far away from witnesses – behind the lines, in the gym and out there on the road, long before I dance under those lights.”

Quote from Muhammad Ali: American professional heavyweight boxer, activist, and philanthropist, 1942 to 2016.

Training over the Summer

I spent the 2018 school summer holidays in Anglesey, UK.  It was an opportunity to train once again at the Holyhead and Anglesey Amateur Boxing Club.  In addition to working on my boxing skills, I would use the aerobic conditioning gained through the training as an important part of my preparations for the Spartan Marston Lodge Age Group Sprint race, which was coming up in mid-July.

The Holyhead and Anglesey Amateur Boxing Club is situated on Vicarage Lane in Holyhead and is just a stones-throw from Newry Beach.  Sessions started at 6pm and generally finished at around 7:15pm.  Summer training is used to prepare the amateur boxers for the upcoming fight season, which starts in September.

I trained three times per week at the club.  Although I had done some Muay Thai in Chiang Mai since the last time I trained in Holyhead, the difference in technique meant that I had to relearn many of the boxing-specific movements.

A video presentation showing some of my training at the Holyhead and Anglesey Amateur Boxing Club is presented below.
