“That which does not kill us, makes us stronger.”
19th May 2018 at the Siam Country Club, Chonburi, Thailand.
This was my second Spartan Race and the race day atmosphere was even better than last year. I was bib number 3786. My start time was 12:45 pm. It was a hot and humid afternoon. The occasional cloud cover that shielded us from the sun earlier in the day was all but gone now. After the race, my Dad told me that he felt like he was “melting” with the heat even though he was fortunate enough to be standing in the shade of a tree for most of the time. Out on the course there was no shade. It was scorching hot and we were all grateful for the frequent hydration points along the way.
Although the conditions were tough, I believe that racing under these conditions will give me an advantage when I compete in the UK in July under the more temperate conditions of the Age Group Marston Lodge event. As the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche once said, “That which does not kill us, makes us stronger.” Leonidas couldn’t have put it better himself ! Aroo !
